Position Summary

Schwan Financial Group is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented CPA Tax Manager to lead tax compliance, planning, and advisory services for individuals and businesses. This role is responsible for managing client relationships, reviewing complex tax returns, ensuring regulatory compliance, and mentoring staff.

What You’ll Do

• Manage and review federal, state, and local tax returns for individuals, partnerships, S-corporations, and C-corporations

• Build and maintain strong client relationships while serving as a trusted tax advisor

• Provide strategic tax planning guidance and identify opportunities for tax savings and efficiency

• Oversee tax planning and consulting engagements to help minimize client tax liabilities

• Ensure compliance with applicable federal and state tax laws and regulations

• Serve as the primary point of contact for clients on tax-related matters

• Maintain strict client confidentiality and professional standards

• Supervise, train, and mentor tax staff and senior accountants

• Review and improve internal tax processes for efficiency and accuracy

• Research complex tax issues and provide clear, actionable recommendations

• Coordinate with auditors, regulatory agencies, and external parties as needed

• Monitor changes in tax legislation and communicate impacts to clients and team members

• Support business development initiatives through networking and proposal assistance

Required Qualifications

• Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license required

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required (Master’s preferred)

• 5+ years of public accounting experience with a strong focus on tax

• Strong knowledge of federal and state tax regulations

• Proven leadership and team management experience

• Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills

• Strong written and verbal communication skills

• Proficiency in tax and accounting software such as ProSystem fx

• Ability to regularly travel to the Aberdeen, SD headquarters

Compensation, Benefits & More

Compensation

• $110,000 - 145,000 annually

• Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM

• Extended hours during tax season (60+ hours expected)

Location: Fargo, ND, with regular travel to the Aberdeen, SD headquarters.

Work Arrangement: Hybrid schedule with a combination of remote work and in-office leadership presence in Aberdeen. Exact schedule can be tailored based on the candidate's location.
