Position Summary

Helix Workforce Solutions is seeking a Board-Certified or Board-Eligible Gastroenterologist to provide comprehensive outpatient gastroenterology care at Okeechobee Gastro Clinic in Okeechobee, Florida.

This is an independent contractor opportunity within a mature, single-provider practice serving an active patient base of approximately 6,000 to 8,000 patients. The clinic currently has an appointment backlog of approximately two months, with patient volume limited by physician availability rather than demand.

The incoming Gastroenterologist will assume clinical leadership of the established practice, maintain continuity of care for its existing patients, and perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures within the clinic’s office-based endoscopy facility. This is an excellent opportunity to join a respected local practice with an established referral network and considerable potential for continued growth.

What You'll Do

  • Provide comprehensive outpatient gastroenterology care, including the evaluation, diagnosis, treatment, and ongoing management of gastrointestinal conditions

  • Perform diagnostic and therapeutic gastroenterology procedures, including colonoscopies and upper endoscopies (EGDs), within the practice’s office-based endoscopy facility

  • Assume clinical leadership of the established gastroenterology practice while maintaining continuity of care for its existing patient population

  • Develop individualized treatment plans and coordinate care with primary care physicians, specialists, hospitals, and other healthcare providers

  • Review and interpret laboratory results, imaging, pathology reports, and other diagnostic studies

  • Maintain timely, accurate, and complete clinical documentation

  • Comply with applicable coding, billing, and payer requirements

  • Provide clinical oversight and direction to nursing, medical assistant, and other clinical support staff

  • Support the safe and efficient operation of the office-based endoscopy lab

  • Ensure adherence to infection-prevention, sterilization, reprocessing, patient-safety, and quality standards

  • Maintain compliance with applicable federal and Florida regulations, professional standards, accreditation requirements, and organizational policies

  • Participate in quality-improvement, patient-safety, and clinical-performance initiatives

  • Collaborate with practice leadership to improve scheduling, patient access, procedural capacity, workflow, and overall practice performance

  • Maintain all required professional credentials, continuing medical education, and payer credentialing

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with referring providers and members of the local medical community

  • Contribute to the practice’s continued growth, including opportunities to expand services and procedural volume

Required Qualifications

  • Board-Certified or Board-Eligible in Gastroenterology and Internal Medicine, as applicable

  • Active Florida medical license or eligibility to obtain one

  • Current DEA registration

  • Willingness and ability to complete expedited payer credentialing

  • Experience with or a strong understanding of office-based endoscopy operations and applicable accreditation standards
